What is Sick and Safe Time?
Effective July 1, 2017, the City of Minneapolis Sick and Safe Time Ordinance creates access to time off work for employees across the city. Full and part-time staff, temporary employees and paid interns are included. Sick and safe time is flexible, extending coverage to more employees while preserving many employer controls.

Employers in Minneapolis must continue to comply with the Sick and Safe Time Ordinance. However, the ordinance cannot be enforced against businesses without a physical location in the city ("employer residents outside the city")—for now. Litigation is ongoing in district court and there is no timeline during which it must be resolved. Please stay tuned or subscribe below for future updates.

Effective date of the Municipal Minimum Wage:
January 1, 2018
A Hennepin County District Court issued on December 10, 2017 an order denying a request for a temporary injunction that would have delayed enforcement of the Municipal Minimum Wage. For this initial phase, effective January 2018, employers with more than 100 employees must pay employees at least $10 per hour.
